During this reporting period, MPS issued:
- Two By-Law tickets for Parked Vehicle on Street when Prohibited which carries a fine of $150
- One By-Law ticket for Parked in a No Parking Zone which carries a fine of $150
December 14th, 2023
At 8:30 am, police were dispatched to a garbage fire in the 200 block of 3rd Street. Police attended and Morden Fire was already on scene. A garbage truck dumped their load of garbage on the street as it was on fire. The fire was extinguished and there was minor damage to the mailboxes near the fire. No one was injured.
December 16th, 2023
At 1:00 am, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an intoxicated female who was yelling and refusing to leave. Police attended and spoke to the female who had no other place to go. She was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. She was released without charges.
December 17th, 2023
While on general patrol, police observed a vehicle fail to stop at a red light. Police conducted a traffic stop and detected an odor of liquor coming from the driver. Police made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath on the Roadside Screening device which resulted in a fail reading. The driver was issued a 90-day driving suspension and a 30-day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $700 administrative penalty.
At 4:40 am, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an intoxicated male yelling and breaking things in the residence. Police attended and spoke to the male who had no other place to go. He was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. He was released without charges.
At 5:30 pm, police were dispatched to a residence regarding a male who was threatening people and pointed a firearm at one of the residents. The caller advised that the male had left the residence. Police arrived and shortly after the male returned to the residence. He was arrested and charged with Point a Firearm, Possess a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carry a Concealed Weapon, Use an Imitation Firearm while Committing an Offence, Utter Threats and Disobey a Court Order. The 30 year old Winnipeg resident was remanded into custody.
At 11:40 pm, police received a call regarding a female banging on someone’s door. Police attended and the caller refused to come to the door, but the neighbor advised that his wife was outside somewhere. Police located his wife who was highly intoxicated and looking for a place to stay as her husband kicked her out of the house. She was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. She was released without charges.
December 18th, 2023
At 2:20 am, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an intoxicated female who took someone’s cell phone and was refusing to give it back. Police attended and returned the phone to the owner, but the female had no other place to go. She was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. She was released without charges.
