July 31st, 2023 – August 9th, 2023
During this reporting period, MPS issued:
- Five tickets for Drive an Unregistered Vehicle which carries a fine of $298
- One ticket for Speeding (130 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone) which carries a fine of $442
- Two tickets for Fail to Wear a Seatbelt while Operating a Motor Vehicle which carries a fine of $298
August 1st, 2023
At 2:40 am, police were dispatched to the park regarding two suspicious people. Police spoke to the female who advised that she had been drinking alcohol with a friend. The 44 year old female is known to police to be on conditions to not consume alcohol and was subsequently arrested and released on an Appearance Notice. She will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in October.
At 7:00 pm, police were dispatched to a local business regarding an assault. Police located a female who was in a lot of pain and advised police that her husband had hit her with a baseball bat. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. The 38 year old male suspect was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon and two counts of Fail to Comply with a Release Order. He was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
August 4th, 2023
Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Thornhill Street and 7th Street. A black Dodge Dart was travelling westbound on Thornhill Street and was stopped to make a left hand turn onto 7th Street when a white Mazda 3 rear ended the vehicle. EMS assessed all occupants and there were no injuries. One vehicle was towed from the scene.
August 5th, 2023
At 2:00 am, police were dispatched to the Morden Campground regarding a male who was possibly impaired and threatened people with a knife. Police observed the suspect vehicle and activated their emergency lights. The vehicle accelerated quickly away from police and attempted to conduct a u-turn before ending up in the ditch. The driver exited the vehicle carrying a knife and walked towards police. The suspect was pepper sprayed by police and dropped the knife. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for an assessment and was medically cleared. The driver of the vehicle was charged with Flight from Police, Resist Arrest, Assault Peace Officer and Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
Police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The caller advised that on August 4th her wallet was stolen from her vehicle while it was parked on the 900 block of Parkhill Drive. There are no suspects at this time.
While on general patrol, police conducted a traffic stop and made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath on the Roadside Screening device which resulted in a warn reading. The driver was issued a 15 day driving suspension and a 3 day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $500 administrative penalty.
August 8th, 2023
At 11:45 am, police received a call from a female who advised that she had just overdosed. Police attended the female’s residence and she was subsequently transported to a healthcare facility for an assessment.
Police received a report of a break enter and theft to a residence. The caller advised that the backdoor was kicked in and some tools were stolen. Police are continuing their investigation.
