During this reporting period, MPS issued:
- One ticket for Drive Without Valid Driver’s Licence which carries a fine of $298
- Ten tickets for Speeding
- One ticket for Drive an Unregistered Vehicle which carries a fine of $298
- One By-Law ticket for Trailer Parked on City Street which carries a fine of $100
August 24th, 2026
While on general patrol, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that did not have licence plates on display. Police noted an odor of liquor coming from the vehicle and made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath on the Roadside Screening Device which resulted in a warn reading. The driver was issued a 15-day driving suspension and a 30-day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $500 administrative penalty. The driver was also issued a ticket for Drive while Disqualified and Drive an Unregistered Vehicle.
August 26th, 2026
While on general patrol, police located a vehicle with an inactive licence plate travelling in front of police. The vehicle pulled off to the side of the road and police performed a u-turn and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle. The vehicle was found to be unoccupied, and police attempted to locate the driver but were unsuccessful. The vehicle was towed from the roadway and police are continuing their investigation.
At 8:30 pm, police were parked on Mountain Street and observed an electric dirt bike driving at a high rate of speed. Police also observed an electric scooter travelling in the same area. The electric dirt bike drove past police several times pulling wheelies each time it passed before meeting up with the driver of the electric scooter. Police drove towards the two vehicles and initiated their lights to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the electric scooter stopped but the electric dirt bike did not. The electric scooter was seized by police, and they are continuing their investigation.
August 27th, 2026
At 10:10 am, police were dispatched to the intersection of Stephen Street and 7th Street regarding a female who was intoxicated and yelling and chasing kids. The suspect was located at a local establishment and started yelling at police. Police could smell a strong odor of liquor coming from the suspect and arrested the 25-year-old female under the Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act. The female is known to be on conditions to not consume alcohol and was arrested for Failing to Comply with her Undertaking. She was released once sober on an Appearance Notice for court in November.
August 28th, 2026
At 11:40 am, police received a call requesting a well being check done on a female who was threatening to harm herself. Police attended and spoke to the female who was subsequently transported to a healthcare facility for an assessment.
August 30th, 2026
At 1:15 am, police were conducting foot patrols at the Access Event Center when they were told that an intoxicated female had been taken into the men’s washroom. Police entered the washroom and noticed a male in a stall with another person. The male advised he was helping his highly intoxicated girlfriend. The male was belligerent and swearing at police refusing to open the stall door. Police were able to open the stall door to check on the well being of the female. As the male was being escorted out of the washroom he turned and punched police in the face. The male was arrested for assaulting a police officer and released on an Appearance Notice for court in November. The intoxicated female was checked over by EMS and brought home by a sober adult.
At 4:38 am, police received a report of a vehicle hitting a pole while entering a drive thru. Police conducted a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle and spoke to the driver who advised he had not been drinking. While outside the vehicle the driver appeared to be unsteady on his feet and police made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath on the Roadside Screening Device which resulted in a fail reading. The driver was issued a 90-day driving suspension and a 30-day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $700 administrative penalty.
At 6:00 am, police received a report of a male attempting to gain access to a building. Police attended and observed a highly intoxicated male laying on the grass in front of the business. Police arrested the 20-year-old male under the Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act. He was released from cells once sober without charges.
Police received a report of a vandalized vehicle while it was parked overnight in the 600 block of Stephen Street. Vehicle is described as a white Volkswagon Tiguan and the vehicle was keyed, antenna ripped off with shoe marks on the hood. Police are continuing their investigation.
