At 2:20 p.m., Morden Police Service initiated a traffic stop of a black Audi near the intersection of Thornhill Street and Mountain Street after observing an inactive license plate. The driver refused to stop and proceeded to drive into oncoming traffic. The Audi fled, and officers ended the pursuit for public safety reasons, but later found the vehicle overturned in a field. A 16-year-old male was arrested for the following charges: Fail to display the correct number and type of number plate, Drive without motor vehicle liability insurance, Drive carelessly, As a driver, failing to stop and remain stopped when signalled or requested by a peace officer, As a novice driver in the learner stage, operate a class 5 vehicle without a supervising driver, As a novice driver, operate or have care or control of a motor vehicle after having consumed drugs such that the approved drug screening equipment detected the presence of a drug at or above the screening threshold. The youth was released on an Appearance Notice and will appear in Morden Provincial Court in September. The driver was not injured and was released to his guardian.
