May 16th, 2022
At 9:30 am, police received a report of assault with a weapon that occurred at a licensed premise on May 13th. The victim advised they were in an altercation with the accused and were subsequently struck in the head with a beer bottle, pulled to the ground and further assaulted. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result. Police subsequently arrested a 29-year-old Morden resident and released her on an Undertaking with a July 26th court date in Morden.
May 18th, 2022
Police received a report of a scam. The victim advised they had been communicating with a business online regarding a job opportunity. The victim had a telephone interview and was to be hired. The business sent the victim a cheque, which the victim cashed and purchased several gift cards at the business’s direction. The victim then provided the business with the gift card activation numbers. The cheque was later found to be fraudulent, and the victim is at a financial loss.
Police would like to remind the public that gift card scams are common, and providing the information from the back of a gift card is providing the scammer the dollar amount on the card.
At 4:40 pm, police received a call to a fight in progress at North Railway Street and 11th Street. While on route police learned one of the suspects fled in a vehicle, which police quickly located and stopped. Three occupants were detained as EMS tended to the victim. Police learned two youth had arranged to meet for a consensual fight, and both sustained minor injuries. All parties were cautioned and the involved youth were turned over to a parent.
At 5:15 pm, police received a complaint of a stolen vehicle. The victim had left their blue Toyota Highlander bearing plate # KAW 167 at a family members residence on Oakwood Drive. The vehicle is believed to have been taken some time between May 17 and May 18. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact MPS.
At 6:15 pm, police received a complaint from a male concerned for his partner’s wellbeing. Police investigated and determined the complainant to be responsible for assaulting his partner. The accused, a 38-year-old Morden resident, was subsequently arrested and later released on an Undertaking with a July 26th court date in Morden.
May 19th, 2022
At 12:30 am, police were dispatched to a disturbance in the 100-block of 11th Street. Police attended and found an intoxicated male screaming and acting belligerent holding a large wooden post. Police attempted to de-escalate the male, who eventually dropped the post but continued to act erratically while challenging police. The male then advanced towards police with clenched fists as police gave commands to stop and comply with directions. The male refused and was subsequently tasered and taken into custody. EMS attended and the accused was transported to hospital where he was treated and released. The accused, a 50-year-old Morden resident, was held in police custody until sober and released on an Undertaking with a July 26th court date in Morden.
May 21st, 2022
At 12:40 am, police were dispatched to an alarm at a local gas station. Police attended and found the building empty and insecure. While investigating, police located an intoxicated youth nearby, who was subsequently taken into custody and turned over to family once sober several hours later. Police later determined the youth had entered the unlocked business several times setting off then alarm prior to police arrival. The youth was cautioned and no charges were laid as a result.
May 22nd, 2022
At 11:20 pm, police were called to a residence on 12th Steet to remove an unwanted guest. Police attended and removed the intoxicated suspect from the residence. The male was found to be on a condition not to consume alcohol and was subsequently arrested, lodged and later released with a court date in Morden Provincial Court.
May 23rd, 2022
Police received a call from a resident on South Railway Street regarding a break and enter and mischief. The suspects entered a residence and several out-buildings causing minor damage. Police are continuing their investigation.
Over the past week, police have received several complaints of unoccupied vehicles being entered and items stolen. In all complaints, suspects are gaining access to unlocked vehicles. Police would like to remind the public that simply locking your vehicle doors and keeping valuables out of sight can be an effective deterrent for potential thieves.
