During this reporting period, MPS issued:
- One ticket for Speeding (83 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone) which carries a fine of $482
- One ticket for Speeding (80 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone) which carries a fine of $442
- Two tickets for Drive While Disqualified which carries a fine of $672 and a 30-day vehicle impound
- One ticket for Overtake and Pass on the Right in Unsafe Manner which carries a fine of $174
- One ticket for Drive Without a valid Driver’s Licence which carries a fine of $298
- One ticket for Passing an Emergency Vehicle Engaged in Prescribed Activity While Using Emergency Equipment, Fail to Move into a Farther Lane which carries a fine of $298
October 4th, 2021
At 10:30 am, police received a request to conduct a wellbeing check on a male who the caller has been unable to locate all weekend. The male was later located in another province and is fine.
At 1:30 pm, police received a report of a fraud. The caller advised that he saw a vehicle for sale on Kijiji and made arrangements with the seller to look at the vehicle on the weekend. The seller was unable to meet on Saturday and asked the caller to put down a deposit on the vehicle and they could meet on Sunday. The caller sent a sum of money to the seller and when he attended the residence on Sunday no one was there. The seller attempted to get the caller to send more money, but the caller refused. The caller was aware that this was a scam as he was no longer able to contact the seller.
October 5th, 2021
At 1:15 pm, police received a call regarding a theft of wire. The caller advised they observed a vehicle pull up to the wire and someone quickly exited the vehicle, grabbed the wire and then the vehicle left the area. Police are continuing their investigation.
At 2:00 pm, police received a report of graffiti on the mailboxes in the Dunston Village Trailer Park.
At 3:45 pm, police were dispatched to an accident at the corner of Route 100 and Thornhill Street. A motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Thornhill Street when a vehicle turned left onto Route 100 cutting off and hitting the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre by EMS and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
October 6th, 2021
At 3:15 pm, police were dispatched to a local business requesting police assistance with kids skateboarding at their loading dock. Police attended and spoke to the kids who left without incident.
October 7th, 2021
At 8:45 am, police received a call regarding a break, enter and theft to a local church. Police attended and observed damage and several items missing from inside the building. Police are continuing their investigation.
Police received a report of a stolen vehicle which occurred sometime between midnight and 4:00 am this morning. The called advised that his truck was stolen off his driveway, but he located it a block away from his residence shortly after. The caller advised there were some items missing from the vehicle.
At 4:20 pm, police received a report of mischief to a shed. The caller advised that a hole was cut in the window screen and the screen was taken off but nothing was missing or taken inside the shed.
October 8th, 2021
At 1:00 am, police were on general patrol when they observed a vehicle whose owner is known to be on a curfew. Police spoke to the driver and subsequent checks confirmed she was still on a curfew condition. The 28-year-old Morden resident was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with an Undertaking. She was released on an Appearance Notice to attend Morden Provincial Court in December.
Police received a report of a hit and run to a vehicle that occurred on September 25th between 2:00 pm and 10:00 pm while parked in a parking lot at the corner of Mountain Street and Thornhill Street. The driver parked her 2014 green Chevrolet Cruze and returned to find damage to the driver’s side door.
At 9:30 pm, police received a call reporting several youths on top of one of the schools. Police attended and located the youths who were given verbal warnings for being on the roof.
October 9th, 2021
At 10:10 am, police were dispatched to a local business regarding a male in the store refusing to wear a mask and creating a scene. Police attended and issued the male a banning notice on behalf of the business.
At 11:00 am, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an assault in progress. Police attended and observed the victim sitting outside the residence. She advised that the suspect had punched her and was still inside the residence. Police entered the residence and observed blood smears on the door frame and damage inside the room. The suspect was upstairs and advised police that he had a gun. Police engaged the suspect in conversation, and he eventually advised that he did not have a gun and complied with police direction. The 26-year-old Morden resident was arrested and taken to Boundary Trails Health Centre for an assessment as he had a visible head injury. He was later cleared at the hospital and charged with two counts of Assault and one count of Mischief Under $5000. He was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
At 4:30 pm, police were dispatched to a residence for an individual that was suicidal. Police and EMS arrived on scene and the individual was transported to a medical healthcare facility for treatment.
At 8:20 pm, police were dispatched to a residence to assist Ambulance dispatch. Police and EMS arrived on scene and two individuals were transported to a medical healthcare facility for treatment.
October 10th, 2021
At 10:05 pm, police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with a parked car. Police attended and observed a damaged vehicle parked just east of another damaged vehicle which had been pushed up onto the curb. Police approached a group of people nearby and one male advised he was the driver of the vehicle. The driver was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The accused was arrested and transported to the Morden Police Service to provide a breath sample which resulted in two readings analyzed at 270 mg% and 250 mg%. As a result of the readings, a 23-year-old Morden resident was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operate Over 80 mg%. The driver was issued a license suspension of 3 months along with a 60 day impoundment of the vehicle. He will appear in Morden Provincial Court in December.
October 11th, 2021
At 12:00 pm, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an argument between family members. Police attended and helped mediate the situation. One family member agreed to leave the residence for the night.
