During this reporting period, MPS issued:
- Five tickets for Speeding
- One ticket for Fail to Display the Correct Number and type of number plate which carries a fine of $113
- One ticket for Drive a Vehicle with view obstructed by improper windshield tinting which carries a fine of $113
- One ticket for Disobey a Traffic Control Device Namely a Red Light which carries a fine of $203
- One ticket for Use a Cellular Telephone or other Handheld Device while Operating a Motor Vehicle which carries a fine of $672 and a three-day license suspension
- Three tickets for Drive an Unregistered Vehicle which carries a fine of $298
- Two tickets for Drive without valid Driver’s License which carries a fine of $298
June 11th, 2024
At 11:30 pm, police observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but failed to pull over and accelerated away from police. Police continued to follow the suspect vehicle which eventually pulled to the side of the road north of Morden on Hwy 432. Police spoke to the driver and could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Polie collected a breath sample on a Roadside Screening Device which resulted in a “WARN” reading. The driver was issued a 15-day driving suspension and a 3-day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $500 administrative penalty. He was also issued the following tickets:
- Driver Carry Liquor in a Vehicle which carries a fine of $237
- Drive Carelessly which carries a fine of $672
- Driver Fail to Stop when Signaled by a Peace Officer which carries a fine of $672
- Disobey Traffic Control Device namely Stop Sign which carries a fine of $203
- Possess Fewer than 25 units of Unmarked Tobacco which carries a fine of $2542
- Unlawful Transportation of Cannabis which carries a fine of $237
June 12th, 2024
At 1:10 pm, police were dispatched to the corner of Mountain Street and Thornhill Street as a semi had struck a light standard knocking it down onto their trailer. Police attended and directed traffic until Manitoba Highways attended to safely remove the light standard from the semi trailer.
At 2:00 pm, police received a call requesting a wellbeing check to be done on a female who was agitated at a local business. Police attended and spoke to the female who was subsequently transported to a healthcare facility for an assessment.
At 7:30 pm, police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 3 near Home Hardware. Police and Fire attended and spoke to the drivers of the three motorcycles. They advised that the high winds had pushed their bikes over while they were travelling on the highway. No one was injured but there was minor damage to the motorcycles.
June 13th, 2024
Police received a report of a hit and run to a vehicle that occurred on June 12th at 11:00 am while parked in a parking lot at 5th Street and Gilmour Street in Morden. The driver parked her 2013 grey Ford F350 and returned to find damage on the left rear fender.
At 9:40 pm, police were dispatched to a residence regarding a male who was heavily intoxicated and causing a disturbance. The 29 year-old Morden-resident was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. He was released without charges.
June 14th, 2024
At 9:25 am, police observed a male who was known to police to have a warrant for arrest for failing to attend court on June 11th. The 29 year-old Morden-resident was arrested on the strength of this warrant and released on an Appearance Notice to attend to Morden Provincial Court in August.
June 16th, 2024
Police observed a female riding a bike that had been recently stolen from Ecole Morden Middle School. The owner attended and identified the bike as belonging to them but declined pressing charges. The bike was returned to the owner.
