October 1st, 2024 – October 15th, 2024

During this reporting period, MPS issued:  

  • Two tickets for Drive an Unregistered Vehicle which carries a fine of $298 
  • Twelve tickets for Speeding 
  • One ticket for Driver Not Wearing a Seatbelt which carries a fine of $298 
  • One ticket for Tow an Unregistered Trailer which carries a fine of $298 
  • One ticket for Drive While Disqualified which carries a fine of $672 and a 30 day motor vehicle seizure 
  • Two By-Law tickets for Parked Contrary to Signage which carries a fine of $150 

October 1st, 2024 

Police received a report of a hit and run to a vehicle that occurred on September 27th while parked in a parking lot on North Railway Street.  The driver parked her 2018 blue Ford Escape and returned to find damage on her front passenger side door. 

October 5th, 2024  

While on general patrol, police conducted a traffic stop and detected an odor of liquor coming from the vehicle.  Police made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath on the Roadside Screening device which resulted in a warn reading.  The driver was issued a 72-hour driving suspension and a 3-day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $400 fine.   

October 6th, 2024  

At 3:00 am, police were on general patrol and observed a vehicle fail to stop at a red light.  Police conducted a traffic stop and observed an odor of liquor coming from the vehicle.  Police made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breach on the Roadside Screening device which resulted in a fail reading.  Subsequent checks showed that the driver had previous impaired sanctions and she was then arrested for Impaired Driving and Drive Over .08. The accused was transported to MPS to provide a breath sample, which resulted in two readings analyzed at 120 mg% and 100 mg%.   As a result of the readings, a 30 year-old Portage La Prairie resident was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operate Over 80 mg%. The driver was issued a 3-month license suspension along with a 30-day vehicle impoundment.  She will appear in Morden Provincial Court in January.

October 8th, 2024 

Police received a report of a Sexual Assault which occurred on October 5th.  Police are continuing their investigation. 

Police received a Warrant of Arrest for 50 year-old Viktor Turchyn for Failing to Attend Court. 

October 10th, 2024 

At 8:00 pm, police received a call regarding two people checking door handles on vehicles.  Nothing was taken or damaged on the vehicles. Police located the suspects and cautioned them for tampering with a motor vehicle. 

October 11th, 2024 

Police received a Warrant of Arrest for 22 year-old Valerie Thomas for Failing to Comply with Probation Order. 

Police received a report of graffiti spray painted on two City of Morden buildings. Police are continuing their investigation. 

October 12th, 2024 

At 8:30 am, police received a report of an intoxicated female yelling outside an apartment building.  Police attended and located the female who was highly intoxicated.  She was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, lodged in cells until sober and released without charges.
