On February 5th, 2024 at 11:18 pm members of the Morden Police Service responded to a call of several people being robbed at gunpoint at a room on North Railway Street in Morden. The suspects had fled the scene before police arrived and one of the victims had been assaulted and items stolen.
Through a subsequent investigation, police were able to obtain an address from a vehicle associated to one of the suspects. Due to the involvement of a firearm, members of the Winkler Police Service and both services K9 units were called to assist and to contain that location. Police made contact with the owner of the apartment, who confirmed that the suspects were inside the residence and were not obeying police commands to exit and surrender. After a brief standoff, the two suspects followed police directions and were safely taken into custody. After an extensive search, police were able to locate the firearm that was used in the Armed Robbery, which is commonly referred to as a “sawed off” shotgun.
As a result of this investigation, 25-year-old Mitchell Thomas of Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery with a Firearm, Assault with a Weapon, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Point a Firearm, Carry a Weapon for the Purpose of Committing an Offence, Carry a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Firearm without a Licence, Fail to comply with a Probation Order and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon while being bound by a Prohibition Order.
Also 24-year-old Dillon Morgan of Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery with a Firearm, Assault with a Weapon, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Point a Firearm, Carry a Weapon for the Purpose of Committing an Offence, Carry a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of a Firearm without a Licence.
Both individuals have been remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg court today.
