During this reporting period, MPS issued:
- One ticket for Disobey Traffic Control Device namely Red Light which carries a fine of $203
- Three tickets for Drive an Unregistered Vehicle which carries a fine of $298
- Two tickets for Drive without a Valid Driver’s Licence which carries a fine of $298
- Two tickets for Drive without wearing a Seatbelt which carries a fine of $298
- Three tickets for Speeding
- One ticket for Use a Cellular Telephone or other Handheld Device while Operating a Motor Vehicle which carries a fine of $672 and a three-day license suspension
- Two tickets for Improper Equipment namely dark side window tinting which carries a fine of $174
- One ticket for Improper Equipment namely must have a speedometer which carries a fine of $174
- One ticket for Fail to Display the Correct Number Plate which carries a fine of $113
- Two By Law tickets for Park or Leave Vehicle on Private Parking where Sign Prohibits which carries a fine of $150
August 20th, 2024
Police received a warrant of arrest for a 66 year-old Carman-resident for Failing to Comply with his Probation Order. On August 22nd, police located the male at the Morden Probation Office and he was arrested and released on an Appearance Notice to attend to Morden Provincial Court in October.
At 10:00 pm, police were dispatched to Colert Beach for report of a stolen pedal boat. The suspects were located on the lake in the boat and were ordered back to shore where the boat was returned and the suspects were issued a warning for theft.
August 21st, 2024
At 8:55 am, police observed a male walking on 5th Street who was known to be on conditions to not attend a nearby residence. The male was arrested and charged with three counts of Failing to Comply with his Release Order and remanded into custody.
At 10:50 am, police received a call requesting police assistance with a male who was threatening to harm himself. Police attended and spoke to the male who was subsequently transported to a healthcare facility for an assessment.
August 22nd, 2024
At 7:00 pm, police were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist. The vehicle was turning westbound from 2nd Street onto Thornhill Street and hit a cyclist on the sidewalk travelling east along Thornhill Street. The cyclist had minor injuries and was treated by EMS.
At 8:44 pm, police were dispatched to a local establishment regarding a male who was threatening people with a knife. Police attended and arrested the male without incident, subsequently locating a knife in his pocket. The suspect was later transported to a healthcare facility for further assessment. The investigation is currently ongoing.
At 9:10 pm, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an assault. Police attended and learned that the complainant’s ex-boyfriend punched and kicked her and broke her window. The male suspect was visibly intoxicated and arrested for Assault and Mischief. He was released the next day on an Undertaking to attend court in November.
August 23rd, 2024
At 1:00 am, police were dispatched to a local establishment regarding a male who was screaming at people. The 30 year-old male was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. He was released the next day and issued a ticket for Disorderly Conduct in or around Licensed Premises which carries a fine of $672.
At 2:45 pm, police received a report of a stolen vehicle. The caller advised that they parked their 2015 blue Dodge Ram at noon and returned at 1:00pm to find the vehicle was gone. The truck was parked in a parking lot on North Railway Street, and the investigation is ongoing.
At 10:50 pm, police were dispatched to a local business regarding a disturbance. Police attended and mediated the situation. One of the subjects was intoxicated and being belligerent towards police. The 37 year-old female was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. She was released the next day without charges.
August 24th, 2024
At 1:20 am, police were dispatched to a residence regarding a disturbance in progress. Police attended and spoke to the victim who advised she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. The suspect was also known by police to be on conditions to not attend the victim’s residence and have no contact with the victim. The male suspect was arrested for Assault and for Failing to Comply with his Undertaking. He was remanded into custody.
At 2:20 am, police were flagged down by security at a local establishment who reported that a male had just assaulted someone with a weapon. The male fled on foot but was taken into custody after a short pursuit and the weapon was located by police. A 26 year-old male was arrested for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He was released on an Undertaking to attend Morden Provincial Court in November.
At 2:30 am, police were dispatched to a group of people fighting on 8th Street. Police attended and spoke to the group, learning that two females had been assaulted by two males who had since left the area. The police K9 Unit was deployed for a search and tracked the two suspects before they were taken into custody and arrested for Assault. They were both lodged in police cells and later released on Undertakings to attend Morden Provincial Court in November.
While searching for suspects in an unrelated matter, police located a male who was on a curfew to reside in Brandon. He was arrested for Failing to Comply with his Undertaking and later released on an Appearance Notice to attend court in November.
At 1:45 pm, police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Thornhill Street and Mountain Street. A motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Thornhill Street when a westbound Jeep Cherokee made a southbound turn onto Mountain Street and collided with the motorcycle. EMS and Morden Fire attended the scene and the driver of the motorcycle was transported to hospital by EMS. The driver of the Jeep was subsequently charged with Proceeding Before Safe to do so under the Highway Traffic Act.
August 25th, 2024
At 2:40 am, police were dispatched to a residence regarding an unknown female sleeping in the caller’s sunroom. Police attended and spoke to the female who was highly intoxicated and unable to tell police where she lived. She was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells until sober. She was released the next day without charges.
August 26th, 2024
While on general patrol, police conducted a traffic stop and observed an odor of liquor coming from the vehicle. Police made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath on a Roadside Screening Device which resulted in a reading of 12 mg%. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving suspension and a ticket for as a Novice Driver Operate a Motor Vehicle while having Alcohol in the Blood which carries a fine of $113.
